SHINING SUN

MIND MAPPING

It is so easy done on paper, but then trying to do it on the computer a whole other story! Very interesting, but a useful tool!
I decided to use the tool, Popplet. Where it had basic examples shown to you as you went through the learning process, which were very helpful. Basically self explanatory. This tool helps you map out a basic idea, and then further explain it with more bubbles of thoughts, with pictures, and short definitions. So you aren't overloaded with words! It lays it on the paper as you want in the order you want as well.
The things I liked about the tool:
1. You can change the color of the boxes.
- I put my definition words in the red boxes, so that would let the student be more aware of what they need to remember.
-I also had the same color for the same subjects.
2. It is so easy to use. Being able to upload pictures is very easy! As well as adding new text boxes, adding the train of thought! Easy Navigation.
3. It is easy on the eyes. It gives so many options of different visual options.

Things I didn't like about the tool:
1. Wondering how well I could keep the attention span of the kids with an engaging lesson plan as well.

I like this tool, but it makes me wonder, why do I have to use the computer for it.. rather than just a piece of paper?!
This is why, KIDS USE TECHNOLOGY! Thats how they're growing up! So it is something to change and adapt too!
One way students can truly use this tool so well, is the interaction level it brings! It takes them to different pictures, but also I liked the color changes! And this is something as teachers can do themselves.

I liked using popplet, it was simple, and the lesson I picked worked out so well for this tool! A lot of vocabulary, and different levels of interactions which is what kids are needing now!

Core Standards of the Course
Standard 1

Objective 2
Describe the movement of Earth and the moon and the apparent movement of other bodies through the sky.
Describe the motions of Earth (i.e., the rotation [spinning] of Earth on its axis, the revolution [orbit] of Earth around the sun).
Use a chart to show that the moon orbits Earth approximately every 28 days.
Use a model of Earth to demonstrate that Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours to produce the night and day cycle.
Use a model to demonstrate why it seems to a person on Earth that the sun, planets, and stars appear to move across the sky.

ED TECH
Standard 8
Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes, videos, educational software) for problem-solving, self-directed learning, and extended learning activities. (5, 6)

Standard 5
Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom. (3, 4)
